When I started photography back in 2010, I never thought I'd doing children's photos, let alone children's superhero photos. I just thought I'd be taking creepy photos of myself forever....lol. I love what I do and I love that kids and their parents get just as excited as I do about their photos.

Back in June we held a contest on Facebook for a creative photo shoot. Lisa entered and won with her idea for a super hero styled shoot at a play ground. First, Shawn and I went searching for an awesome play ground, which was harder than we thought. A lot of play grounds around here don't look fun at all. The one we loved was at Le Marchent St. Thomas. It was awesome and kinda futuristic looking. We decided to do an X-MEN themed shoot, where Xander was at school, learning to use his powers, fight and do other X-MEN-y things. Second, I went searching for materials to make Xander's costume. I found all of what a needed at Value Village and sewed it up. It's a super ambitious project, lots of editing, lot's of learning new, better techniques and lots of fun/screaming and swearing at the monitor. That was a really long sentence..... anyway. I hope you enjoy the first image! There are 4 more to come so stay tuned!!! Same X-MEN time. Same X-MEN channel. Cheers, Sarah I love creating surreal photographs. It's my passion. This photo was the first time I used all but one stock image-( I shot the model). When I create these pictures, I shoot mostly everything I need. I will use stock images for things I can't shoot. So this photo was a real challenge for me. But a good one. I learned lots of new techniques - thank goodness for youtube tutorials. I hope to do more like these. I can't wait.
Cheers, Sarah Our brother-in-law Shawn Cobb loves Venom and Yorkies!. When he saw what we were doing with comic book covers he had to have himself as Venom, specifically this issue he had as a kid. We were at Strange Adventures for their release of The Amazing Spider-Man comic featuring our very own Halifax Town Clock. Strange Adventures arranged to have the featured comic characters, Spider-Man and Electro, in store greeting customers and handing out comic books to children. Afterwards, the costumed superhero and supervillain walked through downtown Halifax and up Citadel Hill to re-enact the cover. It was quite a scene and attracted lots of attention. Personally, we have been going to Strange Adventures for nearly 20 years and this place still rocks! Visit Strange Adventures online: http://www.strangeadventures.com/ You can read more about how Strange Adventures got Halifax on such a cool comic book from The Chronicle Herald report: http://thechronicleherald.ca/artslife/1203739-halifax-town-clock-featured-on-amazing-spider-man-variant-cover Cheers, Sarah & Shawn So yeah, we're doing this now. We take pictures of your children in superhero costumes and turn them into comic book covers. How cool is that!? We framed these two below and surprised Keri with them at work today. She saw us coming and said "Oh no, what did you two do now?" It was so funny, but as soon as we showed her she almost started crying. We haven't heard back from her yet, but pretty sure Owen and Josh lost their shit when they saw them! Anyway, thanks for checking us out and thanks as always to the Bower family. You guys rock! Cheers, Shawn & Sarah With the new Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie set to release in theatres on May 2nd, we wanted to show what family life would be like if Spider-Man had been bitten by the age of 5. Our good friends Aaron & Keri are super people and their children are turning out to be quite amazing themselves. As young Spider-Man, Owen will do anything to show off his powers, even if that means helping Mom with cleaning. Combining forces with his little brother Josh as young Superman, Dad's hidden stash of jellybeans never stood a chance. After a long day of cleaning and with a full belly, we found young Spider-Man hanging around outside relaxing.
We had a wonderful time doing this shoot, and we hope you enjoyed it too! Cheers, Sarah & Shawn |
