Back in October we did a family shoot for Tamara, Trevor and their daughter Jordyn. We wanted to do a composite photo and Tamara suggested we turn one of Jordrn's drawing into a photo. I wasn't sure how I wanted to do this. I started out trying to do a "literal" interpretation of Jordyn's picture... Like having the sun two colours, making the rainbow super small and stretching out the subjects. After plenty of failed attempts I took the elements of the photo and placed them in semi realistically. .. except the floating hearts... those look just like they do in real life .... .... I'm was ok with the end product. I gave to it Tamara and waited nervously for her response. She liked it and said it got "smiles all around from Jordyn" That's what matters to me, even if I'm not sure about what I did, it made someone else smile.

Yesterday we decided to hold a quick contest on our Facebook page. The first person to reply to the post got a shoot where they would get water balloons thrown at them. I was worried no one would enter. I was stupid to worry lol. So many people wanted it that I had to opened it to the first three people to respond. Then I got messages about it so now I think I have a total of five people and two families that want to water ballooned in the face. I love you guys. Jessica was our first shoot. WE'RE SO SORRY AGAIN JESSICA. Who would have thought that the balloons would just bounce off her face and not pop. After a few tries, Jessica went to put her dogs in and Shawn looked horrified. He whispered, "I can't do this. I feel awful. You do it." NOPE. I had Shawn stand on the cooler and drop the balloon on Jessica's head and SUCCESS!!! The next shoot was for Stu, which his girlfriend Megan set up. Stu had no idea what we planned. So we set up, Shawn covertly got a water balloon and BAM- the water balloon BOUNCED off the top of Stu's head and slightly messed up his hair. FAIL. After that we had tons of fun soaking each other and managed to get so amazing pictures. I can't wait till to do more!! Cheers, Sarah We did more!!!! Swasti was our next target and of course Shawn and I had at it.
We have a new on going project that I'm super excited about, surreal drink images. I've tried product photography before and struggled with it. My brain just doesn't like things that aren't crazy I guess....but with this project we're given a drink recipe and we create an image in the style I'm most comfortable shooting--surreal. The first drink was a crazy cocktail using vodka, frozen Skittles, cream soda and licorice. The shoot was so fun and so yummy. We made it rain Skittles over and over again, got my camera lens covered in cream soda and ate soooo much licorice. Good times. I'm really pleased with how the final image turned out. I am forever grateful for Shawn always looking out for me, making sure I take enough "background images". Even when I say I have them he makes me check, because usually I don't, and then freak out when I get home and make everything that much harder on myself. *sigh* Anyways I hope you like the image. Try out the cocktail and let me know in the comments how it tastes!! Ingredients 1 ounce flavored vodka (watermelon or cherry) 1 ounce Sour Puss Raspberry 4 ounces cranberry juice 1 ounce Cream Soda Mix the cranberry juice with the vodka and Sour Puss. Then, when ready to serve, add the Cream Soda. Instead of serving over ice, add your favorite chilled hard candy. We suggest Jolly Ranchers or Skittles that were left in the freezer overnight. For that added touch, a piece of cherry licorice completes the drink. Cheers, Sarah I love creating surreal photographs. It's my passion. This photo was the first time I used all but one stock image-( I shot the model). When I create these pictures, I shoot mostly everything I need. I will use stock images for things I can't shoot. So this photo was a real challenge for me. But a good one. I learned lots of new techniques - thank goodness for youtube tutorials. I hope to do more like these. I can't wait.
Cheers, Sarah Last summer I did a shoot with my best friend (of 29 years.. dear lord), Melanie. Mel's a fellow photographer. We don't get to see each other very much as she lives in Alberta. When she was visiting, Mel suggested a faerie photo shoot for her daughter, Sammie. And that just what we did! Cheers, Sarah, Shawn, Mel and Sammie. Super fun shoot for a Mother's Day super present...OK I'll stop with the "supers".... for now :) All the superhero gear was hand made by us. We gave Aaron his own Superman comic cover, and Emilia wanted to be Snowwhite.
We had an awesome time. Emilia paid us in fruit gummies. Best. Payment. Ever. Cheers, Sarah & Shawn ...I lied about the "supers".... Here is a quick and fun way to add a splash of colour to your photos. No computer skills needed! All you need is:
Paint the plastic anyway you want with your favourite colours. Wait for it to dry and tear a hole in the middle. Strap it on your lens with an elastic band and your all set! Happy shooting! Cheers, Sarah & Shawn |
